CALGARY, Alberta — Alberta healthcare is in crisis. Frontline healthcare workers, CUPE members, and community supporters in Calgary are mobilizing for a major Healthcare Day of Action on September 14, 2024, to bring attention to the urgent issues plaguing Alberta’s healthcare system. From low wages to increasing American style healthcare and critical staffing shortages, frontline healthcare workers are taking a stand to demand change.

Event Highlights: The event will feature high-profile speakers and frontline healthcare workers sharing their personal experiences of the worsening conditions in Alberta’s healthcare sector. This Day of Action is part of CUPE Alberta’s Waging Ahead Campaign, which aims to secure wage increases that reflect the cost of living and ensure better working conditions for healthcare workers.

American Style Healthcare: The UCP government’s aggressive push for an American style system has significantly impacted Alberta’s healthcare system, leading to longer wait times, understaffing, and declining quality of care. As collective bargaining approaches this fall, CUPE workers and supporters are rallying to demand fair wages and better job security for the dedicated workers who keep our healthcare system running and for the Albertans that rely on these important services.

Call for Media Coverage: We invite media outlets to cover this pivotal event as frontline workers, union leaders, and community advocates join forces to call for an end to the privatization of healthcare and demand respect for healthcare workers. The stories shared at the Day of Action will underscore the urgent need for action to protect Alberta’s healthcare system.
