Uber Technologies Inc. is bringing in a new chief technology officer from Amazon.com Inc., Sukumar Rathnam, filling a position that has been vacant for more than three months.
The hiring was announced internally Thursday and was first reported by The Information. An Uber UBER, -1.59% spokesman confirmed the news to MarketWatch, and said Rathnam would start Sept. 28.
Rathnam has been at Amazon AMZN, -2.25% since 2011, and was most recently a vice president in charge of product selection and catalog systems.
Uber’s former CTO, Thuan Pham, resigned in May after seven years at the ride-hailing giant. Pham left the San Francisco-based company just before it laid off more than 6,000 employees, or 25% of its workforce, as it grappled with a coronavirus-related slowdown in demand for rides.
